What Does It Matter…

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? Matt 16:26 NLT

How many times do you ask someone how they are doing, and they say “Busy”. It’s like a badge of honor! We live in a time where it’s almost a competition to see who can do the most. We seem to take pride in ripping and running the streets, waking up early after a late night, seeing who can hang out the most or longest, who can work the most, etc. Then we complain about how busy our lives are! The lives that we signed up for. The lives that we created. I mean, after working all day, we fill our weekly calendars with dinner dates and networking events and community meetings. We hang out on Friday  night, attend a variety events on Saturday, hang out Saturday night, church Sunday, brunch or family dinner…Now it’s time for Monday to do it again. And Mondays SUCK…because we get no rest…but the cycle continues….

I am double guilty of this! One day I looked at my calendar and wondered, why am I doing this? So, I stopped…or at least tried to. I only do things now, that fit into my purpose. My life. Now there are some non-negotiables. Bible Study, Church, NABA but anything else depends on if I want to give up time or have a sure desire. Do I still overextend myself, yes but we have to do better and acknowledging how stretched we are and “managing our own minutes”. We have to ask ourselves…. Why am I doing this and What does it matter?

If we are honest with ourselves, a lot of the activities on our calendar are not for us. They don’t contribute to our well-being. They don’t increase our spirituality. They probably don’t even add value to our lives. We spend time supporting other peoples dreams and goals, instead of focusing on ours. We spend time helping other people manage rather that managing ourselves. We put more effort into relationships that doesn’t get reciprocated at all. My friends….Let me help you, this is not healthy. Stop acting like you want to do these things. Let go of the fear that got you trapped.

FOMO = Fear Of Missing Out. We are afraid of missing something when we should be afraid of losing ourselves. We should be afraid of missing God.

  1. You may have to miss a couple parties, but What does it matter?

  2. You may have to change jobs, but What does it matter?

  3. You may have to move to a different city, but What does it matter?

  4. You may lose some friends, but What does it matter?

  5. You may not see that person you’re dating anymore –What does it matter?

At the end of the day, we place value on stuff that doesn’t matter. Probably because we get immediate pleasure. Because we need easy distractions. But remember, short-time sacrifice, long term gain. Take time to value what really matters! Your personal growth. Your mental health. You relationship with God. Jesus told the disciples “What good is it to gain the world and lose your soul?” So I ask you the same, what good is it to be the most busy, the most popular, the most whatever…if you are not truly happy?

I dare you today to stop! Stop wasting time. Stop wasting energy. Stop wasting gas. Focus on you! Spend time with God and let Him show you what matters!

Peace. Blessings. Love.
